The Northeast Minneapolis Flag
According to our local Twin Cities historian/urban geographer, Bill Lindeke, "(the flag) was designed in 1975 by local 10-year-old Tony Di Giovanni as part of a contest put on by the Northeast State Bank. With blue and white stripes and the red star-spangled "NE" in the corner, the flag is a striking and vexillologically sound design! The Northeast State Bank, ran for decades by local businessman and community pillar Walter Rasmussen, has long been proud of its flags, which represent the diversity of cultures in Northeast Minneapolis. The flag still flies proudly today over the bank's unique "Parking Lot Park", but is a rare sight elsewhere in the neighborhood." Bill has a ton of interesting stuff on his website including the book Closing Time: Saloons, Taverns, Dives and Watering Holes of the Twin Cites. SO COOL!
Because Bill is no longer making the flags, he has given me his blessing to create another run of them. If you're interested in a flag of your own, fill out the order form below. Can't wait to see some more NE flags flyin' round the neighborhood!

NE Flag Order Form
Hi neighbor! PLEASE NOTE: I will only be ordering 2x3 single-sided flags at this time. It will have two grommets on the side for hanging. It may take a few weeks to gather orders and get these printed as it will make the most sense to order in bulk, and I'm a busy gal y'all! :) I have set the max order to 6, just reach out to me if you need more.
Each flag costs $25 to print, so the $30 is to cover shipping. Anything leftover will be donated to a nonprofit in the neighborhood. Payment will be required upfront via Paypal, Venmo, or Zelle and will reach out to you directly with more info once I receive your order. Pickup will be at my home in Audubon Park or nearby. Let me know if you have any additional questions/comments/requests below.
Thanks so much!
Marisa
